Worried About Redundancy?
A recent report has disclosed that eight out of ten people do not feel that their jobs are secure, and they are worried about redundancy. If you are one of them, what can you do?
There is little point in freezing in the headlights. If you think that your job is under threat, it makes sense to act now. It can take several months to get a job at the best of times and in the current climate it could easily be longer.
Step one is to keep your CV up to date. Of course you will eventually need to tailor your CV to the positions you are applying for but at this stage make sure that you have included all your career highlights since you last wrote a CV, and that your skills and achievements are well flagged up.
Then start to research your industry. What type of jobs will you be applying for, and with which companies. What do you know about them? Do you have any contacts? Why should they want to look at you? At this stage these are all theoretical questions because you are not actually applying for jobs, but the more work you do now, the quicker it will be to get a job should you need to.
Try to identify the recruiters and head hunters you should be talking to. You could give them a speculative call, find out how things are. But don’t send your CV yet, because you are probably not ready.
Finally, give Career Energy a call. Let us help you to refine your CV, your contact list, and the way you are presenting yourself when you talk to people. Take advantage of the emotional and motivational support that a good career professional will give you. Of course you can get a job on your own, if you want to save money. But it is a false economy; it will take you longer and cost you more in lost earnings.
Alternatively, stop worrying. Redundancy might never happen.
