Seeking Top Talent In The City

Leaving aside the social and moral issues, yesterday’s announcement that the Chief Executive of RBS is to receive a £9 million salary package will come as welcome news to many. Not because it shows that elements of the City are not prepared to establish a new salary regime but because of the statement it makes about the demand for top talent in the City and the implications for those who believe they fall into that category. Carry on Working

Two surveys out today offer encouraging news for those who love their jobs and dread the thought of retirement. A joint report by Help the Aged and Age Concern says that 60% of people surveyed thought they would have to delay their retirement due to deficits in their pension. And a Financial Times survey found that 60% of people would support working beyond state retirement age in order to receive a bigger pension.

Responding to Rejection

What should you do if you are told that you havent got the job that you are after; that you haven’t even been invited to interview? Do you respond, or stay quiet? This question was brought home sharply to me yesterday by someone who had applied for a post with us. He certainly dealt with it in the wrong way, and since he had applied for a position as a career adviser with us, I was reassured that I had made the right decision in rejecting his application.
