Change Is In The Air
As we expected, the vast majority of people visiting our stand at the One Life Live exhibition this weekend were looking for new jobs. A significant proportion were already out of work and many more were expecting to face redundancy over the coming months. A recurring theme amongst the people that spoke to us was that they would like to take the opportunity offered by redundancy to move into a new career direction.
A career change at any time requires much thought, planning and preparation. Even more so at this time when opportunities are limited and certain sectors, such as finance, are virtually closed off to job seekers. However, as our new book, How To Get A Job In A Recession shows, there are still plenty of jobs around and it is possible not only to get a new job but to make a sucessful career change. And from the number of books that we sold at One Life Live it is clear that many people people believe the same.
The good news is that the recession seems to be moving into a new phase. The bad news is that the new phase is likely to be just as tough, if not tougher than the old. There are encouraging signals coming from the financial sector and stock markets rose last week; though they may fall again this. Stock markets tend to anticipate movements in the broader economy; once they move into a sustained recovery it is likely that the end of the recession will follow on, albeit several months later. But as the financial sector recovers other sectors will be badly hit; industrial output is collapsing across the world with a consequent knock on effect amongst companies this country.
We are not out of the woods yet by any means. But things are changing and change is progress. So if you need to get a new job, and you are willing to invest the time and money in planning a thorough and sustainable change into a career that you will enjoy and benefit from; come and talk to us. Recession brings opportunity. Take advantage of it.
