David Beckham’s Career Management

David Beckham has confirmed what many Manchester United fans always suspected, that he would have loved to have spent his entire career at the club.  He is quoted as saying “I’ve been to three great clubs since I left United, but it would’ve been great to stay there like Ryan Giggs has. Being at one club for so long is a real achievement.” Of course, for many people David Beckham has a dream job anyway. Nevertheless, the fact that he sees staying at one club for the duration of his career as a great achievement tells us a lot about what it must be like to work in the highly mobile world of football. Time For A Career Change?

Over the past year economists and politicians have been divided as to the eventual timing and pace at which we will recover from recession. Some have feted 2010 as a year of rapid growth leading to a return to normality in 2011, others have been far more cautious. However, as we near the end of the second months in 2010 it appears that caution ought to be the watchword; there is little chance of a speedy economic recovery. The opening words of Shakespeare’s Richard III were used to describe the profound industrial unrest that took place in 1978-9 Schools and airports closed for lack of workers, and ambulance drivers struck,. For several months the country was riven by strikes. Rubbish piled high in the street. Thousands of petrol stations were closed.
