Ethical Dilemmas And Career Planning

The arrest of the Tory immigration spokesman for alleged invovement in leaks from the Home Office raises issues for anyone who is conscientious about their job and believes in behaving responsibly at work. OK, most of us are never going to be passed classified information, and most of us do not have a career which is based on challenging the actions of government. But we are all likely at times to come across situations in our working life when we have to decide whether to do something that might be construed as sailing close to the limits of the law.

Retail Trauma

So MFI and Woolies have gone into administration. That’s a lot of jobs that are likely to be lost. In a sector that already has some quite unique career challenges. Retail is either a career you love or a career you hate, there is little in between. If you hate retail, work for a failing retailer and are about to lose your job, the chances are that you will make a career change, and be happier for it. But what if you enjoy the retail environment, and there are very few employment opportunities?

Helping the Socially Excluded Back Into Work

One of the lesser known activities that Career Energy undertakes, but which is growing rapidly, is our work in helping those who are excluded from society to find jobs and improve their prospects. The causes of social exclusion are many – it may be as a result of grinding povery, long term sickness, imprisonment or general disadvantage. But the solutions for helping someone who is excluded from the workplace to enter it are just the same as they are for someone who has worked all their life.
