It may seem odd for a former employee to accept the outplacement services that are offered by their former employer.  Many people wonder why a company would offer to help these employees find new employment.  After all, it is not their responsibility to help these employees find a new job.  Why do some companies choose to offer outplacement services for the employees that they have had to let go.

One of the main reasons that a company will offer these services is that they are regretful that they had to let their employees go.  While it is easy to see a company that is laying off their workers as a faceless heartless entity, the truth is that most employers do not wish to let their employees go.  However, when it becomes necessary to do this, they offer the services as a way to make up for the loss of the job to these employees that have worked for them loyally for a number of years.  If it is difficult for you to see your former employer as someone who genuinely cares about what happens to you, consider that they do not have to offer these services.

Another reason that many companies have for offering these services to their former employees is a continuing relationship and feeling of goodwill with these workers.  By doing what they can to assist these employees they are fostering a feeling of caring that may be important in the future.  Consider when a company lets go some of their most valuable employees.  When they can assist this employee find new employment, the day may come when the employer wishes to offer them employment once again.  If there is a good relationship established with outplacement services, this employee will at least consider going back to their former employer. 

In the long run, the reasons that the company is offering outplacement services is not as important as taking advantage of these services.  Finding yourself out of a job is one of the most devastating experiences that many people will find themselves in.  If an outplacement service can help get you back on track and in a new position, does it really matter why it was offered to you?  Take advantage of every service that will put you back in a job in the shortest time possible.  It is in your best interest to do so.
